What Is a Steel Profile?

Cold-formed steel profiles are materials that can be cut burr-free to the lengths a project requires and drilled burr-free at the required size and axis. They are used mainly in multi-storey light steel buildings, solar power plants, industrial facilities and special long-span projects.

Hekim Profil is a profile manufacturer operating under Hekim Holding that processes steel by cold forming. With the materials and technology it uses in the prefabricated building sector, it produces in integrated facilities with high production capacity.

Producing with a total quality management approach, Hekim Profil also supports its customers with packaging and logistics services. In line with its "Technology Point" motto, it carries out burr-free cutting to the required lengths and burr-free drilling at the required size and axis, according to customer requests and project requirements.

How Are Steel Profiles Made?

Steel profiles are produced by cold forming black or galvanised sheet on our high-tech production lines.

Steel Profile Dimensions

Steel profiles can be produced in standard sizes or prepared per project to customer requirements, within the section and size ranges the machine can produce. The common production ranges of our six main profiles are below.

  • Profile length up to 16,000 mm
  • Sheet thickness 1.00 to 4.00 mm
  • Web up to 400 mm
  • Flange up to 100 mm
  • Galvanising class by project
  • Project-specific length and section

The galvanising class is set by the customer and the project. Each profile's own size ranges are given in the technical detail table on its product page.

Bend radius at 90° corners: min. 3.00 mm
All dimensions comply with TS EN 1993-1-3.
Material: S390GD + Z / S350GD+Z / DX51D+Z / S235 JR / S355JR

  • Production in intermediate sizes is also available on request.
  • Effective cross-section calculation is recommended based on the steel grade and load.
  • Effective values for second moment of area, strength and cross-section properties vary depending on the applied load, support conditions and steel grade.
  • All calculations are based on the centroid.
  • A, B and C can be produced in different dimensions.

Steel Profile Types

Hekim Profil produces high-strength, easy-to-apply steel profiles. Its steel profile types, produced in all sizes to customer requirements, and their applications are as follows.

C Profile

Used in the construction, steel structure, automotive and electrical-electronics sectors. Serves as columns, beams and roof trusses in light steel buildings, and as purlins, girts and facade profiles in heavy steel industrial plants.

C Plus Profile

Its Plus bend gives it a high load capacity. Can be used for roofs, steel buildings, solar power plants and trusses. More resistant to earthquakes and disasters.

Sigma Profile

Chosen for light steel houses, solar power plants and industrial applications because it is light yet strong. Often used for beams and roofs in construction. Web heights of 100–400 mm and flanges of 50–100 mm.

Sigma Plus Profile

Used as load-bearing and auxiliary members in industrial buildings in sectors such as solar power, construction, automotive, electrical-electronics and energy. Coating and mechanical properties can be tailored to the project.

U Profile

Frequently used in non-industrial structures such as light steel buildings, solar power plants, hangars and livestock shelters. Serves as columns, beams and roof trusses in these structures. Its high load-bearing capacity and ease of production, transportation and installation make building construction more economical.

Z Profile

Stands out for its resistance to all types of natural events. Used as purlins, girts and facade profiles in solar power plants and industrial buildings with heavy structural steel frames.

Steel Profile Applications

Usable in many fields such as steel house profiles, solar power plants, construction, the automotive industry, machine manufacturing, metalwork, factories and hangars, steel profiles are indispensable materials of the light steel construction sector. Their variety means they can be used in different projects and adapted as required.

How to Choose a Steel Profile

Points to consider when choosing a steel profile:

  • Thanks to their load capacity, steel profiles can be used in large, heavy constructions.
  • Being durable and long-lasting, they suit long-term projects.
  • Steel profiles can be assembled faster than other materials.
  • Raw material choice gives a cost advantage. Profile selection is based on the project's structural calculation and details.

Steel Profile Prices

Steel profile prices depend on the technologies used in production, the profile size, raw material quality and many other variables. The processes applied to the profile weigh most in pricing.

The main price factors are: punching on the profile, length options, special orders, special packaging options, sheet type, sheet technical properties, sheet size used and scrap allowance. Prices are set per running metre and per ton.

To gain a price advantage, different sections (C Profile, Z Profile, Sigma Profile, U Profile) and thicknesses can be chosen. Steel construction profiles offer up to 40% weight savings compared with heavy steel structures, lowering the tonnage used and cutting costs by the same proportion.
